The Focus on “Green” Energy

Over the past decade, we have seen a dramatic rise in power demands and consumption, particularly in the data center environment. It is expected that this trend will steadily continue to rise. The increasing energy costs and decreasing power availability have motivated several businesses to move toward going “green.”

Most companies can’t build their own wind farms or buy enough solar panels to power their entire operations. Therefore, you must find other ways to utilize power efficiently. The best way to ensure maximum efficiency is to utilize power monitoring equipment. Without monitoring, you will not be able to see power consumption trends and make effective decisions on what pieces of equipment need to be replaced or which ones should be repurchased for future installations.

  • Network Operating Centers
  • Financial Centers
  • Wireless Messaging Platforms
  • Portable Solar Powered Equipment
  • Portable Communications Equipment

Improving Power Efficiency

  • Replace basic power strips with advanced power strips that monitor connected devices.
  • Consider power strips with additional features such as switching to control the on/off operation of idle equipment or devices that do not need to be in operation 24/7.
  • Utilize 208V, 230V, or 3 Phase power whenever possible.
  • For increased accuracy, monitor on a per outlet basis.
  • To fully utilize a power strip and minimize the number of power strips needed, use a PDU with multiple outlet types.
  • Receive email alerts from advanced PDUs that notify you when a device is operating outside the desired operating range.
